What is SENA?

The National Learning Service, SENA(in spanish -Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje), created in 1957 as a result of the joint initiative of organized workers, employers, the Catholic Church and the International Labor Organization, is a national public establishment with legal status, own patrimony, independent and administrative autonomy, under the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of the Republic of Colombia. 
On February 9, 1994 comes into validity the Law 119, which restructures the SENA, repeaing Decree 2149 of 1992 and other provisions. 

Mission 
SENA is responsible for fulfilling the function that the State must invest in social and technical development of Colombian workers, providing and implementing comprehensive professional training for the incorporation and development of people in productive activities that contribute to social development, economic and technological development. 

Vision 
The practice of Integral Training, as central element to the social functionas, outward focused, based on national and international dynamics, contributing to creativity and business innovation, and boosting the processes that support the transformation of work and occupational demand for the country. 

The free training offered by SENA is characterized as a theoretical-practical educational process by which people acquire, maintain and improve technical and technological knowledge, skills, attitudes and values which enable them to develop their capacities to act critically and creatively in productive activity, thus contributing to their own personal development, the competitiveness of the economy and the full exercise of citizenship. 

Currently, it reaches the 1099 towns, even the most remote, with a corporate communication network comprising the General Direction, 33 Regionals, 115 Training Centers and 45 mobile classrooms with internet access, which provides more than 15 000 computers connected.

SENA, opened first Techno-Academy, training in scientific and technological competencies

The center, which began providing services in the town of Cazucá in Soacha (Cundinamarca), combines high school education with advanced knowledge. There, students can graduate as Technologists in Engineering, Nanotechnology and Biotechnology. 

A Techno-Academy, which combines basic and secondary school education with scientific knowledge and advanced technology, was inaugurated by the National Learning Service (SENA) in Altos de Cazucá, to graduating high school graduates more competent or able to create business. 

The training center is located in Central Cazucá Technopark in Soacha, and already works with 600 young people from Soacha, Cazucá and localities of Bogotá like Kennedy, Bosa and Ciudad Bolivar.

These young people, despite his young age, have the capacity to perform DNA extraction, develop cosmetic products, make the coating of surfaces with nano-films and designing model airplanes or structures, among others.

The Techno-Academy required an investment in equipment and technological infrastructure of one million three hundred and seventy thousand dollars(US$ 1370000), of which contributed one million dollars by SENA and the rest by other private companies and international agencies.

There, the SENA is planning to graduat this year a total of one thousand apprentices: 850 on additional training and 150 as technician in engineering, nanotechnology and biotechnology.

SENA releases its first offering on technological specializations

Seeking to develop the talent of young Colombians and thanks to the successful projects that have been executed in the last four years, SENA launched its first package of technological specializations aimed at any person interested in this field, regardless of their preparation.

According to the director of Colombia Technopark, Jennifer Pineda initially those specializations will focus in the areas of application development for mobile devices, precision agriculture, fermentation processes applied in the food industry, biotechnological processes for water and soil remediation.

To register, interested parties must enter to the webpage www.tecnoparquecolombia.org, make a virtual evaluation, and then propose an initiative on a project that will carry through their expertise.

SENA also announced it will expand the range of specializations in fields such as nanotechnology, nanodiversity and next generation networks.

The Sena will traing in nanotechnology in Pereira

Training in line with new industry trends and business, it will be pointing by the SENA, which before the end of the year will be teaching in Pereira training programs in nanotechnology and digital animation.

This was announced by the national director of the institution, Dario Montoya, following a visit where he highlighted the regional initiative to enter new fields.

"The SENA leads new scenarios in the country and in training, so we have programs in Bogota on digital animation and nanotechnology and we hope to bring them to Pereira," he said.

Montoya believes that due to the enthusiasm of the regional executives in Risaralda, will be a rapid progress setting up the programs.

"Our challenge is not to abandon the traditional training as a bakery, sales, secretarial, accounting and many others, but we have to make giant leaps, and this is one of those" he said.
